Ikan Thai Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

"I went to Ikan on Valentines night and waited for over 2 hours for my main course. I travelled from Scotland to Manchester for the weekend and this restaurant was very disappointing. The restaurant was very busy, as to be expected, but the service was shocking. We paid a deposit of £10 for nothing, My partner order the only meat dish from the starter menu only to be told there wasn't any left, and was left with only a choice of fish dishes. I was given the wrong starter also. We waited for a further 1 hour 45 mins, still not to be given a main course. When we left I wanted to speak to the owner but she wouldn't speak to me. There were many other couples leaving the restaurant early too. I'm still awaiting my deposit to be refunded. A shocking experience and I would not recommend this restaurant. The staff were very helpful under the circumstances but the owner seemed to have no people skills whatsoever!" - angela williams, scotland 27/3/09 (visited on Valentines evening)

"I enjoyed myself so much in Ikan. It had a lively atmosphere, staff were very friendly and chatty and the food was just absolutely amazing. I think I can dine here every week if i was in town!" - amanda, manchester 28/9/08 (visited on a tuesday evening)

"The staff at Ikan were great, the bartender, a blonde girl, (can't remember her name), made me a cocktail not on the menu, because she was trying out some new ideas. The manager was really nice, she is from Australia and was telling me all the places I should go when I'm there... great night all round and very helpful" - haley, manchester 1/9/08 (visited on a friday evening)

"We found Ikan busy but not crowded and the staff hurried but not running around, they were there when ever we needed them, they were quite attentative with the water and wine and trying to sell us drinks but not over the top. Lovely decor and the owner introduced herself which was a nice touch" - robin, scunthorpe 25/6/08 (visited on a wednesday evening)

"Thoroughly enjoyed the meal at Ikan, service was very friendly and attentative. The Crying Tiger dish was extraordinary!" - daniel whiteley, manchester 17/4/08 (visited on a friday evening)
