Cafe Football down at Hotel Football in Old Trafford has released a new afternoon tea menu, featuring two options; home and away, offering different spins on the classic English food ceremony.  We were invited down to take a look for ourselves, with high hopes that the experience would beat what’s been happening on the pitch over the road as of late.

Affording cracking views of Old Trafford over the ship canal, it’s a great space, with sport on the TV’s from every angle, so that you don’t miss that game over your dinner!   The drinks menu is also extensive, with beers, wines and cocktails offering options for all tastes. We kicked off with a pint of San Miguel and a Catalan name-inspired Tiki Taka cocktail, as we enjoyed our riverside view.

The afternoon teas themselves come in two options of ‘halves’; Home and Away.  ‘Home’ features British classics such as a lovely finger food presentation of Fish and Chips, a perfectly cooked roast beef filled Yorkshire pudding with some superb gravy, and a crispy Sausage Roll swirl.  A selection of finger sandwiches, and a chocolate/sultana scone with clotted cream and jam, plus a mini glass of Seven Brothers ale finished the platter in style.

‘Away’ focuses more on the sweeter side of things, with the hot savoury elements on the ‘Home’ platter being substituted with a slick Prosecco and Strawberry Jelly, a couple of cake slices, and some classic Spanish churros.  They were crispy, well presented, and came with a lovely chocolate dip.  Definitely a bigger Spanish success story than Gary’s experience in Valencia. Some lovely, crusty sandwich slices and the same winning scone as above, again proved to be a winner.

Both afternoon teas come with a choice of cuppa to boot.  Portion sizes are generous across the board, and sharing one of each platter was more than enough for our team of two.  We’d definitely suggest having one of each for two people for added variety.  Both the Home and Away Afternoon Teas are priced at £19.50 each per person, and are available now at Café Football.
